Bansuri Swaraj is the daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj: 

The only daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, having your mother as a former foreign minister must be overwhelming and yet, Bansuri issued a letter saying that the party has full faith that she will live up to its expectations and strengthen the organization. With this, it is now clear that Bansuri Swaraj has entered politics. 

She graduated from Oxford University:

Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick, England. Apart from this, Bansuri has also obtained a law degree from BPP Law School, London. After obtaining a law degree she became a criminal lawyer in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court like one of her parents. 

Bansuri Swaraj has also earned a master’s degree from the University of Oxford. Bansuri joined the Bar Council of Delhi in 2007 and currently practices in the Supreme Court . Till now she has played a role in many big cases.

Bansuri Swaraj has 16 years of legal experience:

Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj is a lawyer by profession.

According to a statement from BJP’s Delhi unit, Bansuri Swaraj registered with the Bar Council of Delhi in 2007 and has 16 years of experience in the legal profession. 

Swaraj’s appointment is expected to strengthen the BJP:

The Delhi BJP has appointed her as the co-convener of the legal department and in addition to this event, the first appointment of Virendra Sachdeva as the state president also happened simultaneously. Virender Sachdeva has appointed Bansuri Swaraj as co-convener of the legal cell in his first appointment in the state unit after taking over as full-time state president. 

Being known for helping the party in legal matters before, Bansuri Swaraj said:  “It’s just that I have been formally given an opportunity to serve the party more actively as the co-convener of the Delhi BJP legal department,” Swaraj said.

Bansuri Swaraj thanked not only the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also top BJP leaders for her appointment. In a tweet, she said, “I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, JP Nadda ji, BL Santosh for making me State Co-Convenor of BJP Delhi Pradesh Legal Department. I am very grateful to Virendra Sachdeva, BJP for giving me the opportunity to serve the party”. 

Controversies and other criticism:

Accused of helping restore Lalit Modi’s passport: Bansuri had earlier hit the headlines when she was accused of helping former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi restore his passport.

On August 27, 2014, the passport of the former IPL commissioner was restored by the High Court. At that time she was present in the court. After getting relief in the passport case, Lalit Modi congratulated his legal team.

Later, in his tweet, Lalit Modi mentioned the names of the members of the legal team, including Bansuri, and also the names of eight other lawyers. 

As the uproar escalated, the BJP defended Sushma Swaraj’s daughter by stating that the young woman had her own profession and was free to do her work.

Modi Ji had a close place in his heart for Bansuri Swaraj’s mother:

Back in 2019, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at her residence.

He even regarded Sushma Swaraj’s death as a ‘personal loss’ and said that her services to India will be remembered fondly. After her death, he was quoted saying that the late Sushma Swaraj was an epitome of dignity, sophistication, and commitment to public service.
