Ashok Vaswani is the Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Banking and Payments, responsible for the Group’s consumer banking, private banking, and payments businesses in Asia, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States.
Before this, Ashok oversaw Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Business Banking, and Barclaycard UK as CEO of Barclays Bank UK. After joining Barclays in 2010 to oversee the company’s credit card operations in the UK, Europe, and the Nordic region, Ashok went on to become chairman of Entercard. He later became the global manager of Barclays Retail Business Bank, Barclays Personal and Corporate Banking, and Barclays in Africa.
In addition to serving on the boards of Citizens Advice’s Trustee Board and Pratham Board, Ashok is a member of the Barclays Executive Committee. Also, he is the founder and director of Lend-a-Hand, a nonprofit organization that promotes rural education in India, and he serves on the advisory boards of several other organizations, including Rutberg & Co. In the past, Ashok held non-executive director positions on the boards of Telenor ASA, Barclays Africa Group Limited, and the advisory boards of S. P. Jain Institute of Management, Insead Singapore, and Visa Asia Pacific.

Since launching his career in Mumbai, India, he has resided and worked in the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Ashok worked at Citigroup for twenty years. Born in India, Ashok currently resides in London with his spouse. Their daughter works in San Francisco. Ashok holds postgraduate degrees from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of India in addition to his degrees from Bombay University, Sydenham College, and College of Commerce and Economics.
