Jackie Young who was born September 16, 1997, Princeton, Indiana is an American basketball player who plays in the Women’s National Basketball Association. In Princeton, Jackie Young studied at the Public High School, where she played for the local basketball team. An AP All-America Third Team pick as a true junior in 2018-19 when she teamed with A.Ogunbowale, M.Mabrey to give the Irish one of the nation’s top backcourts. 

University career:

Prior to her professional career in the WNBA, Young played college basketball for the University of Notre Dame in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) league from 2016 to 2019. In the NCAA for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, coming from Princeton Community High School she reached the finals twice and won the title in 2018 where she and her team won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship.

Professional career:

She is the 2019 WNBA Draft No. 1 pick by the Las Vegas Aces ( for whom she has played in the North American women’s professional basketball league ever since) alongside teammate Arike Ogunbowale also being drafted by the Dallas Wings after just three seasons in college, as is WNBA No. 1 Draft pick Jewell Loyd 2015. She is considered Notre Dame’s best defender, unafraid of playing with a broken nose in sophomore and junior, but analysts consider she needs to improve at three-point shooting, which she attempts little 

National team:

She is a member of the three-a-side US basketball team competing in the Tokyo Olympics as a last-minute replacement for Katie Lou Samuelson.  At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which was forced to be held another year later in July and August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Young won her first Olympic gold medal with the US team in the women’s 3×3 basketball tournament.

Awards:

  1. In the 2022 season, she was honored with the WNBA Most Improved Player Award.
  2. Young played basketball for the University of Notre Dame, winning the NCAA championship in 2018. 
  3. She is the 2020 Olympic champion in women’s 3×3 basketball with the United States.
