As of 2023, Prithvi Shaw the captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team has been getting noticed for things other than his talents. To bring that into focus we notice his prowess in November 2013, when Prithvi Shaw  scored 546 runs in an Elite Division match, the most by any batsman in an organized format since 1901, but his record was later broken by Pranav Dhanawade. Under his captaincy, the Indian Under-19 cricket team won the 2017–18 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Having won, Prithvi Shaw was given a chance in the two-Test series against the West Indies and in the very first innings of the match he completed his century in 99 balls and became the 15th batsman in the Indian team to score a century on Test debut. The next year, Prithvi also became the youngest captain to win the World Cup as captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team which won that year! 

1. Youngest EVER records of Prithvi Shaw: 

Prithvi Shaw  is the second youngest Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score a Test century on debut.

On 23rd April 2018, in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) at the age of 18 years Prithvi Shaw became the youngest opening batsman playing for Delhi Daredevils! 

Prithvi Shaw is India’s youngest batsman to score a century on debut. Prithvi has scored his first Test century in 99 balls. Apart from this, Prithvi has become the third batsman to score the fastest century in the debut match. 

Prithvi Shaw, along with Sanju Samson, is the joint youngest player to score a half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), at the age of 18 years and 169 days. Apart from Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson  has also scored a half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the age of 18 years 169 days.

Prithvi Shaw is the first batsman to hit six fours in the first over of a T20I innings. 

2. Prithvi Shaw’s early life and parents: 

Hailing from the Vaish Bania caste, Prithvi Shaw was born on 9 November 1999 in Gaya, Bihar. His father’s name is Pankaj Shaw and was the primary provider because His mother passed away when he was four years old. 

He was brought up by his father alone Who used to run a small business of readymade garments. To ensure that Prithvi Shaw gets better training and better opportunities, his father even closed his small business. Although Prithvi Shaw was born in Bihar his family relocated once and for all from Gaya, Bihar to Thane, Maharashtra for employment.

For the training of Prithvi Shaw, his father got him enrolled in the MIG Club of Bandra. He completed his early education at AVS Vidyamandir, Virar, Mumbai, and Rizvi Springfield High School, Mumbai.

3. Prithvi Shaw’s early education/school career:

In November 2013, Prithvi Shaw set a new record of 546 runs in 330 balls while playing for Rizvi Springfield in a Harris Shield match. This was the highest score in Indian school cricket at that time. But currently it is the fourth highest score in school cricket. 

4. Prithvi Shaw’s ODI career:

In September 2018, he was named in India’s Test squad for the series against the West Indies. On 5 February 2020, he made his ODI debut against New Zealand where he scored 20 runs in 21 balls.

5. Prithvi Shaw’s test career:

On 4 October 2018, he made his Test debut against West Indies where he scored 134 runs in 154 balls. In that match, he scored his maiden century in Tests and became the youngest batsman to score a Test century on debut for India (18 years and 319 days old).

6. Prithvi Shaw’s T20I career:

In June 2021, he was named in India’s One Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) squads for the series against Sri Lanka.

He made his T20 International debut against Sri Lanka on 25 July 2021, where he was dismissed without scoring any runs.

As of 2023, we see that Prithvi was recently included in Team India’s T20 but he did not get a chance to play in the playing XI. 

Recently Prithvi Shaw was included in the Indian team for the T20 series against New Zealand. However, he was not included in the playing XI for a single match. Earlier, he had done amazing batting for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. He was included in Team India because of his brilliant third century in domestic cricket.

7. Prithvi Shaw and his doping violation:

On 30 July 2019, he was suspended by the BCCI for a doping violation until 15 November 2019.

8. Physical and car assault:

As of Feb 2023, Prithvi Shaw, one of the rising stars of Indian cricket, was on the news however, this time not for his batting but for a fight in the middle of the road with a female fan. 

A video of Prithvi is becoming increasingly viral on social media showcasing a ruckus on the road over a selfie! Prithvi Shaw’s friend’s car was attacked by 8 people simply because Prithvi Shaw had agreed to take a selfie but somehow it led to vandalizing his friend’s car.

The fight between Prithvi Shaw and a female fan began like this: Prithvi along with his friends had arrived for dinner at a five star hotel in Santacruz, Mumbai. At the same time, some fans started demanding selfies from him. Angry fans vandalized his friend’s car after repeatedly refusing selfie demands. 

A video of the attack on the car is also becoming increasingly viral on social media featuring a lady brandishing Prithvi Shaw’s phone. In this, Prithvi is seen saving his phone from her. According to the report, Prithvi’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav has lodged a report with the police. According to Ashish, his car was attacked with a baseball bat.

In his complaint, Ashish has said that the accused chased the car and threatened to file a false case against him if he did not pay the money. Police have registered a case against 8 people on this whole matter.

When Prithvi came out of the hotel after dinner, he was riding in his friend’s car. Meanwhile, the glass of the car was broken with a ball from the base. However, the hotel staff and manager pacified the matter on the spot and after that Prithvi was sent in another car. 

A woman has been arrested in this case. Although different claims are being made by the lawyers of both sides it is alleged that a girl and her friends misbehaved with Prithvi Shaw, later the controversy deepened so much that the girl was arrested. 

The Oshiwara police have registered a case against 8 people in this case and arrested the accused girl, the accused Sapna Gill. 

The accused Sapna claims to be demanding Rs 50,000 as blackmail. Sapla Gill is a social media influencer. This incident took place in Mumbai in the early hours of Wednesday. According to Prithvi Shaw’s lawyer, two fans named Shobhit Thakur and Sapna Gill wanted to take a selfie with Prithvi Shaw who came for dinner at the hotel. Prithvi agreed to him, but then after some time he reached Prithvi Shaw along with some other people and started demanding a selfie again. This time Shaw refused him. Even then he was not leaving from there, so Prithvi called the hotel manager and got him thrown out. Enraged over the claim of attack on the car, both the fans called their friends and waited for Prithvi to come outside the hotel and as soon as Prithvi came out, 8 people surrounded him with baseball bats. 

According to Prithvi’s lawyer, after this somehow Prithvi Shaw left the scene of the action but the accused started chasing his car and at a red light these accused attacked Prithvi Shaw’s car leading to his windshield being broken. 

Prithvi Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav lodged a police complaint following the incident outside a five-star hotel in Mumbai and later Oshiwara police booked eight people, including Sapna Gill, for damaging the friend’s car. According to the police report, the accused broke both the front and rear glass of Prithvi’s friend’s car as they allegedly threatened to make false allegations against Prithvi and his friend if they did not give them Rs 50,000 as blackmail money. 

9. Prithvi Shaw’s IPL career: 

Prithvi Shaw was bought by the Delhi Daredevils franchise in the 2018 Indian Premier League auction for 1 crore 20 lakhs and has scored the joint youngest fifty in IPL in his second match at the age of 18 years 169 days. Earlier, Sanju Samson had scored a half-century at the same age. 

On 29 April 2021, while playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL, Prithvi Shaw  hit 6 fours in 6 balls in Shivam Mavi’s over against Kolkata Knight Riders. Due to which he became the second batsman after Ajinkya Rahane to hit 6 fours in an over in IPL. 

Prithvi Shaw was retained by Delhi Capitals for the 2022 IPL season by paying Rs 7.50 crores before the mega auction. Speaking about IPL 2022, Prithvi Shaw has scored 283 runs in 10 matches, during which the batting average of Prithvi has been close to 30. 

10. Prithvi Shaw’s domestic career: 

  • On 1 January 2017, he made his first-class debut against Tamil Nadu where he scored 120 runs. In domestic cricket, he played a match for Mumbai in first-class cricket for the first time in the year 2017 in Rajkot from 1 to 5 January in which the Tamil Nadu team was in front of him. In this match, he scored 4 runs in the first innings and scored 120 runs in the second innings. 
  • Shaw also made his List A debut in the same year in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Gujarat on 25 February but scored 10 runs in 19 balls in the first match. He scored his first century in his List A cricket match against Leicestershire while batting well. In this match, where the India ‘A’ team scored 458 runs, Prithvi Shaw scored an innings of 132 runs.
  • In December 2017, Prithvi Shaw was promoted to the coveted position of being the captain of India’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. On 4 February 2018, under his captaincy, the Under-19 Indian cricket team won the 2018 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
  • Prithvi Shaw scored his maiden List A century against Leicestershire on 19 June 2018.
  • In February 2021, Prithvi Shaw scored his maiden double century in List A cricket, when he scored an unbeaten 227 – the highest individual score by a captain in List A cricket. Prithvi Shaw made a new record in 2021, he became the first cricketer to score 800 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw has done this feat at the age of 21. Prithvi Shaw scored 827 runs in the tournament at an average of 165.40. His strike rate was 138.29.
