After voting in favor of the law, he called the economy “stunted” and a “burden” on Americans, adding: “The importance of this moment cannot be underestimated. With the first comprehensive tax reform in 31 years, we will dramatically strengthen America’s economy and restore economic mobility and opportunity to working individuals and families across the country.”

On May 19, 2021, he and the seven other House Republican leaders in the 117th Congress voted against establishing a national commission to investigate the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. All 217 Democrats present voted to establish such a commission.

What did Mike Johnson say about abortion?

Mike Johnson famously blamed abortions for breaking up the nuclear family in America. He also linked that to a rise in school shootings. His exact quote was: “When you tell a generation of people that life has no value, no meaning, that it’s expendable, then you do wind up with school shooters.” Mike Johnson even led anti-abortion marches in Shreveport-Bossier City.

Mike Johnson was one of the more vocal opponents of Roe v. Wade. Mike Johnson was instrumental in supporting bills that sought to outlaw abortion both at fertilization and at 15 weeks gestation.

Mike Johnson blamed Roe v. Wade for a cutback in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid during a 2017 House Judiciary Committee meeting. Mike Johnson said that abortion directly leads to a drop in the country’s workforce and damages the economy.

Mike Johnson has co-sponsored bills like the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children From Late-Term Abortions Act, and the Heartbeat Protection Act of 2021. These bills were solely directed to curb abortions in America. These bills didn’t just criminalize abortions, they even brought in a possible prison term of five years for the doctors performing abortions.

One of Mike Johnson’s biggest successes in his crusade against abortions came when the House passed a resolution that condemned “vandalism, violence, and destruction against pro-life facilities, groups, and churches”. The resolution also stated that the House “recognizes the sanctity of life and the important role pro-life facilities, groups, and churches play in supporting pregnant women, infants, and families.”

What did Mike Johnson say about evolution?

Mike Johnson doesn’t believe in evolution and rejects all of Darwin’s theories. He is a Young-Earth Creationist who helped the Creation Museum earn a lot of subsidies. Oddly enough, Mike Johnson linked believing in evolution to school shootings as well. This is what he said: “People say, ‘How can a young person go into their schoolhouse and open fire on their classmates?’ Because we’ve taught a whole generation, a couple generations now, of Americans: that there’s no right or wrong, that it’s about survival of the fittest, and you evolve from the primordial slime. Why is that life of any sacred value? Because there’s nobody sacred to whom it’s owed.”
