That movie wasn’t a hit and Gayathrie Shankar didn’t really become a star because of it. She hit stardom with the movie Madhuul Kadu Pakhta Kanom alongside Vijay Sethupathi. That movie boosted her career exponentially and she went on to appear in numerous movies like Ponmalai Padu, Rummy (with Inigo Prabhakaran), Oru Nallanal Bhattu Sholeren, Puriyatha Pujam, and Super Deluxe (starring Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha Akkineni, Bahad Basil, Ramya Krishnan, Myshkin).

Gayathrie Shankar made her directorial debut with the short film “Shit Happens”. It was a part of the eighth India Film Project. She said that she started the project “on an impulse”. CUPA is one of the oldest animal shelters in the city. She also volunteered at the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary (BMAD), Chennai, and helped rescue a lot of animals. She is a trained snake catcher. She learned under the tutelage of renowned catcher Gowri Shankar through a Forest Department workshop.
Sports
Gayathrie Shankar loves sports but she started participating quite late in her life. She started her love affair with Ultimate Frisbee after a friend introduced her to the sport in Chennai. It was a life changing experience for her and she has since vouched for girls to pick up sports early in their life. Gayathrie Shankar has also expressed a desire to appear in a sports themed movie at some point in her career.
